Caregivers Learn to De-Escalate Situations
Earlier this year, the Community Caregivers of Greater Derry (CCGD) and Center For Life Management (CLM) offered a training session aimed at equipping volunteers, caregivers, and staff with strategies to better manage difficult behaviors and learn skills to de-escalate situations. Held on January 9th in the CCGD meeting room, the event delved into what to do when an elderly companion gets stressed, upset, or angry and what you can do to help de-escalate the situation in a safe and positive way. Participants learned positive ways to communicate in a heightened situation using de-escalation techniques and safe, non-restrictive interventions that can be utilized at home, on the phone, during an assignment, or within the community. The strategies discussed during the presentation can be used to reduce an individual’s anger, frustration, or physical behavior. Check out the full video now!
