Veteran’s Day 2022

Check out the latest!

Thank you to all the veterans that have served. The Veteranโ€™s Day proclamation and ceremony was held at MacGregorโ€™s Park on Veteranโ€™s Day, November 11th 2022. This yearโ€™s theme honored those lost not overseas or in war, but those lost at home. Mission 22 aims to bring awareness to suicide prevention for veterans. Isaac Miller, Commander VFW 1617, read the poem, Mission 22: From Me2U Pt2 by Adam Segal. In the poem, it is said that per soldier lost at war, we lose 10 at home. Then guest speaker, Charles Andiolo VFW post 1617 Marine Corp Vietnam Veteran, spoke about his own experiences and struggles coming home after fighting in Vietnam. Upon hearing these emotional stories, we hope that this brings a little more attention to the struggles of veterans off the battlefield.

The ceremony was made possible under the combined efforts of the:

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1617

Auxiliary VFW 1617

American Legion Post 9

Ladies Auxiliary American Legion Unit 9

Derry Recreation Department

Derry International Order of Rainbow Girls
