Want to know what’s happening around town? Check out our latest episode of What’s Happening Derry!
In this episode we got our pizza to go because it was time for Pizzastock! Pizzastock was held on June 18th at the Boys & Girls Club of Derry. There were seventeen acts, lots of music, and of course pizza!
According to Pizzastock co-founder, Douglas Flood, “Pizzastock got started by a bunch of tenth-graders sitting in a music class, trying to come up with an idea of an all-day music festival with pizza for all of them and their friends.” The event achieved just that as attendees met up with old friends and made new ones. The threat of rain lingered throughout the event, but that didn’t deter people from having fun. People played games on the lawn as bands such as Rock Bottom, Afterimage, and Second to Last Minute rocked out. Two attendees even wore trash bags over their clothes so that they could keep partying even if it rained.
But Pizzastock isn’t just about music and pizza. Pizzastock is run by The Jason R. Flood Memorial and their goal is to spread awareness of suicide prevention through live music events. The event hosted community tables for special services so that teens could visit if something was troubling them and to receive information on services.
Overall, the event was a huge success! We can’t wait until next year and hope that even more bands will be playing.
