About the Project

The Cause
Over the winter project leader, Charlie Foote, reached out to the VFW and presented them with a plan that he wanted to locate and resurface veterans grave markers at our cemetery. There are potentially over 1000 veterans interred at Forest Hill Cemetery, and sadly, many have gone unnoticed due to settling and overgrowth of the grounds. This idea was spurred from an Eagle Scout project that Foote helped with a few years ago. We want ALL of our Veterans to be recognized and remembered.

The Progress
About 1000 markers have been uncovered, many of which were completely underground, some about 5-6 inches deep. There are currently efforts happening to clean and polish all the markers. There have been a few solid volunteers, of which we're extremely appreciative.

Volunteers Needed!
We need more help! If you find that you have an hour or two of free time, we'd love to have you. Even if it’s locating and digging out one marker, that is huge. Once all are uncovered, work will begin on creating on a digital database to properly document and map out where each are interred.
